Summer Fae

Summer Fae are a non-playable faction in the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Overview[]

The Fae look very much like mortal humans, but they actually are the embodiment of nature in the physical world. The Summer Fae, also known as the Seelie, represent growth, warmth, and the emergence of life. Free of mortal ambition or desires, the Summer Fae steadfastly play out their role in the Great Cycle.

Though Fae are found throughout the wild places of Amalur, they can most often be found at the Court of Summer in the Gardens of Ysa in Dalentarth. Yet the Fae themselves claim to originate from a realm of pure magic, where no mortal being has gone and returned from.

Government[]

The Summer Fae seem to follow a traditional system of monarchy and the noble ranking system. The Court of Summer is their central government headed by High King Titarion making him the equivalent of an emperor. Aside from The court of summer it appears that the summer Fae are divided in Houses which are their version of a Kingdom and as such lead by a King or Queen who answers only to the High King. Currently only three houses are known:

The Great Cycle[]

All the Fae believe in the Great Cycle. It is through this cycle that Fae are unlike the mortal races. When a Fae dies, their essence is recycled via unknown means, and reborn again into the world. Fae likely retain their memories of their past lives. Indeed, constantly reliving the same life has lead some summer fae to embrace the same power that corrupted the Winter Fae, such as The Maid of Windmere. Some Fae have also simply stepped away from their former roles, such as Sir Sagrell (who is replaced by the Fateless One) and King Wencen (the one met in-game remarks that the original King Wencen has moved on).

The Telling[]

Tellings are great deeds that have been achieved by Fae of the Summer Court. These are often immortalized in great ballads, sung by the House of Ballads, that are housed in Lorestones and Fae Cairns. Many Summer Fae find themselves reliving these great ballads identically as they have been told. In this way, the Fae are only immortal in the sense that they are not able to free themselves from this constant repeat of history and find they are unable to cope with the ever-changing world.

Territory[]

The Summer Fae are generally associated with the western part of the Faelands with Dalentarth being one of the most densely populated regions where Summer Fae are most commonly encountered. The Seelie Fae have a presence in other regions as well, though in substantially fewer numbers. A small group Inhabits the Cradle of Summer and a smaller yet group dwells in the deserts of Detyre (the harsh desert lands used to be the home of one of the Fae Houses which, after being conquered by the mortals has been turned into an arena).

Fae don't have an organized religion, but aren't necessarily atheistic. Several Fae such as Sir Farrara, Lord Callor, and Nomeron will make statements such as "May your God's protect you," indicating they at least think it's possible that the Gods of mortals exist. Also, Hallam the White (if you choose to let the Maid of Windemere live) mentions that Amalur is a world of mortals passing from one life to the next, indicating that some Fae may believe that mortals go to an afterlife.
