Are there any ramifications to looting? In other words, does this destroy your Karma or anytihing? What if you are caught? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.29.101.94 (talkcontribs)

There's two cases. One are unowned items, strewn around the world for the Fateless One to collect, it seems. You can loot these all you like until your inventory bursts. The other items are "owned" and you have to steal them - the containers and items will be marked in red iirc. And yes, there are consequences if you get caught.

First of all the bounty on your head increases (just as it does for assaults and murder and trespassing) and usually guards and/or angry villagers/townspeople will run up to you. Guards will take you to jail (takes away a chunk of your XP) or demand a fine (and take away the stolen items). You can also resist arrest (more bounty) and try to force your way past them and into safety (they'll forget about you after a few in-game days). Depending on what you stole and where you stole it from some NPCs might attack you the moment they catch you forcing you to run or fight (more bounty).

Still, I have not seen any long-term effects of a high bounty or crimes. Most places seem to forgive you after around 4 in-game days (hence the backpack exploit, for example). -- Gyumaou (Talk) 07:07, May 3, 2012 (UTC)
