Re-visiting the game

Great news about the game rights being bought up.

On seeing that the game was now available on PS4, I actually danced around my living room like a loon.

Now re-visiting all my old builds and re-enjoying this gorgeous game.

Do we now need to start putting re in front of everything?

Kingdoms of Amalur Intellectual Property Acquired By THQ Nordic

Hello everyone!

Here at the Amalur Wiki we have exciting news!

On September 6th, 2018 THQ Nordic announced it had acquired Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning in addition to its related intellectual property, including the cancelled MMO Copernicus project.

That's all the news for now but we will update everyone as soon as there are new developments!

THQ NORDIC HAS BOUGHT THE RIGHTS TO KINGDOMS OF AMALUR!

Hey everyone

This is actually my first post, but i have come with great news.

THQ NORDIC has bought kingdoms of amalur and some other assests from 38 studios (yes, the company that went belly up). Although NORDIC has not confirmed their intentions with the game, you can be pretty certain that they are going to do something with it. My theory is that it will get remastered for the new consoles, and if that succeeds, then possibly a sequel. At the end of the day, this is the first promising news we have received in 5 years. Hopefully Nordic keeps us updated and we get to see this beautiful game getting the attention it has always deserved.

Amalur Wiki News V.1 - What would you like to see done?

Hello everyone! WikiaWizard here again with another News post about the Wiki.

It's been a little while since I first made a News post here regarding updates being made to the Amalur Wiki:Editing guideline. If anyone is interested in what was discussed you can follow the link to the original post here.

Now onto the purpose of this post. There are still lots of things to be done here on the wiki with many pages still needing to be created and a lot of our current pages still need more information. This is a large undertaking and has/will take a lot of time to accomplish. Most of the current work I am doing is working behind the scenes of the Wiki to make sure things run smoothly. I do however understand that this is not what most people will w…

Digging outward

Generally, I post about connections I'm making within the game itself or the lore. This post, however, I'm going to be filling with links to a variety of sources (mostly artwork) concerning Amalur.

Mark Hernandez's style was perfect for everything that Amalur wanted to be. He still has pictures from work he did on his page, including stills from Glen Suthain and Daineid, the underground Dokkalfar city built underneath the ruins of Alabastra. http://markhernandezart.com/38-studios

Devon Cady-Lee, known on DeviantART as Gorrem, is likely already familiar to you as someone who worked on art pieces representing a variety of races for Reckoning. His pieces offer a slightly different take on many of these races than what we see in Reckoning, and …

Mind the area-cap (part 2)

Since embarking on this journey, with Acrinimiril and my second playthrough, I have realized my own mistaken assumption made in the previous blog post of this series. The intended result of all this was supposed to be improving upon the area-level cap guide, in an effort to "formulate a more realistic approach to playing the game, while maximizing opportunities for XP and loot, and avoiding grinding." That was my stated intention, from the previous blog post. However, I overlooked the fact that I had also mentioned that this was a secondary motivation, an ulterior motive.

The problem isn't the fact that I'm now playing the game on Hard difficulty, although I've certainly noticed the difference compared to my first playthrough. The problem is tha…

Mind the area-cap (part 1)

On my second playthrough of the game, I've become much more cautious. I recall during my first playthrough I chased Lord Cras all the way from New Culn in Eastern Forsaken Plain, through several areas, and into Rathir, all because I was so annoyed with his deception and swindling of unfortunate refugees, during the Treasures of Culn side quest. At that time I had no idea about the area level cap in the game, or the implications my mad dash would have on the rest of my playthrough.

Since then I have learned that the enemies and loot get locked at the level of your player character upon first entry to that area. The first time I played through this game, it was on Casual difficulty, the lowest setting, as I wanted to learn about the game first…

Salvaging weapon and armor components (pt 2)

In part one of this blog series, I made the following rather bold claim: At the time I made that assertion, I was a long way into my first playthrough, and had spent well over 300 hours playing the game, including time spent on the "great cycle" of saving, salvaging, reloading, salvaging, reloading, salvaging, and saving again. Allestar Tower and Gorhart were a distant memory.

With this, the second part of my blog series on salvaging weapon and armor components, I am now right back there at the beginning again in Gorhart, with my new Fateless One, on my second playthrough of the game. I still have that Rusty Longsword in my inventory as I'm writing this!

I've learned a lot about the game since I was last here in Gorhart as a new player. When…

Level of immersion

.

I purchased this game second-hand myself. My local gaming store, EB Games, allows gamers to "trade and save", by bringing in their old games and consoles to exchange for store credit. Other gamers can then purchase these "pre-owned" games or consoles from the store at discounted prices. Unlock codes like the House of Valor one for Amalur, in its original form, just try to force everyone to buy brand new. I guess the idea is that the developers and publishers get more money from original purchasers, and don't receive profit from second-hand sales.

However, if you take paid-for DLCs like Dead Kel and Naros into consideration, the publisher and developers can still make money off those online purchases, even from gamers who bought the main ga…

How does your Fateless One relax?

Hi everyone, I'm a new regular contributor to the Amalur Wiki, and this is my first News blog post.

While wandering around in Amalur, fighting off the Tuatha and Niskaru, and completing quests (often a thankless task), it occurred to me that the Fateless One really needs to unwind and relax once in a while! So what is there to do in Amalur besides bloodshed and mayhem? Picking alchemical reagents can be a nice passive pastime, even if it often means risking your neck.

style.]]What would your Fateless One do in Amalur to let off some steam? I've just created a new sub-category of User Images called Extracurricular Activities. It was inspired by a chance opportunity during the Siege of Moondown in Alabastra, when a Bolgan fell under a meteor …

Salvaging weapon and armor components

As I mentioned on my profile page, I have spent a lot more time playing this game than the savegame file shows. I'm looking at it now as I type this. Time Played: 188:49:40. The thing is, this little counter only increments very slowly for me. I spend many long hours playing the game, but the counter only goes up by mere minutes or even seconds. But it's not a bug, it's not broken. The reason for this time differential is that the hours I'm spending playing are mostly being spent at a blacksmithing forge, trying to get the best components possible from salvaging unwanted equipment.

Tourism in Amalur, with Screenshots

I will never forget you, I know there is no other game like yours, but I've got an appointment with Tamriel.

I'm sure you understand.

Goodbye.

(Who am I kidding? I know I'll come back crawling for fanfiction.)

Truly, my only regret (that doesn't involve Cydan's brows or Brown's haircut) is about not managing to drag brother Egan along with Ordo.

Here are our last tours, those that we will reckon, those that will part us and lead to a new path beyond Amalur. Farewell you wonderful glorious clever lovely vibrant intimist, dynamic and yet doomed universe. May you never rest in limbo but be reawakened from Gravehall to Esahrra, across Idyllia and Ysa. Yes, may Bhaile flourish again though the Songs of the House of Ballads and the Laments of the …

A list that I thought to make, but I have no idea how it even could be put on the Destinies page. The Mystersies of Amalur

The one thing that as I played this truly magnificent game was the many mysteries of Amalur. Here's a couple that always got me into a deep thought

House Of Seasons You could ask anyone in the city on what the House was but what it stood for, it's members, and even it's history has been shrouded. My first idea is that they all simply left foreseeing the coming battle they just left their post and went somewhere else. My second is that there was a coup in which someone or something took out the house and destroyed its inhabits. But my Question is why isn't the king doing any investigations of it even after the war it is never pressed upon nor looked upon what happened. What possibilities could have happened if the company wouldn't have gon…

Introducing a Helpful Bot - Update

Hello again everyone! It's been a few months now since I last posted a Blog about the prospect of having a Bot here at the Amalur Wiki to help out with tidying, organising and generally helping out the community.

After a consensus was reached on the topic and with no votes against the idea, we are now able to welcome WizBot to the Amalur community! WizBot was given the OK to start working on November 23 and has already been working away at some category sorting and infobox fixing.

If you have anything suggestions for jobs that WizBot can tackle then please leave a message on its Message Wall.

Well that's the latest news on the Amalur Wiki so let me know if you have any thoughts about our new Bot in the comments below.

I hope that you're all do…

I can't tire of it

  • 1 "One day as Ysa, Ruler of the Kingdom of Summer, who slew the unseelie Lord Ohn in the Withering War, sat musing in the shadows of the Grand Trellis, he finally realized why he had done it.
  • 2 The waters of the Font of Summer were running silvery through his fingers, while the Shapers in the background chanted their ever repeating verses. All had gone well and would have again and again and again—had he not broken the circle.
  • 3 The waters had run from the source to the sea to the source, the verses had echoed from the dying to the reborn. Ysa was the Lord of Summer and would have been forever.
  • 4 Nothing was threatening him, nothing challenged him. But where there can be no loss, there can be no victory. And where there's no death, can there be …

To do things around Amalur

  • Stick her own hand to Aubrey. And get that crab away from her feet.
  • Find the Fae obsessed Egan from Gorhart and have him tour the most wondrous sites of Dalentarth. I mean, it's almost ridiculous how Aery have been watching the village from up the very cliff of the Mission for days and everyone seem to know about it. Expect brother Egan. There is Iluvia living at the inn too now, but I wouldn't put it past him not to notice.
  • Get the Gastyr and Ansilla heirs together so I can peacefully loot and just seize their other castles, and eventually kidnap Brun the Bard to Gravehall.
  • Find a way to be able to use the Gravehall library as a Reserve Chest dedicated to my huge collection of Scrolls, Notes, and Books stuffed with dried fae charms.
  • Spare ten ms…

Other occupations

  • Showing Ordo around, showing around Ordo, and watching him being so happy to sit and greet Dalentarth and even Akara in Gallows End. Quaintly, Fate was reasonable enough to understand that I have earned to keep a souvenir from Alabastra. Whatever he might say, I think he's happy to see the world after so many time in Weconai. 'Look, he felt so cozy that he sat in the cell where Adar was generously housed.
  • Preying for Sir Bones to come back and take Ms. Lorelle out of my Gravehal bebroom. More and more desperately.
  • Watching Cydan and Titarion filling up normal chickens with Maybryn Wine, before using them to play croquet and creating more chicken Overlords. And considering to stop smoking this Prismere Fate Essence of Dust thing whatever Lila…

Introspection

It occurred to me a few days ago that all three of the Great Houses of the Court of Winter are answers to the question that Cydan often poses to the Fateless One as they leave conversation: “What does one do in the face of certain death?” Do you succumb to and embrace the sorrow, build a monument to your pride, or fight for due vengeance?

The House of Sorrows is the peaceful answer: Embrace the inevitable. Let yourself feel the sorrow and the pain, but acknowledge that this isn’t something you can change. Note that the Sorrows answer isn’t the famed “death is just a new beginning” or any such; this is a complete acceptance of one’s end.

The House of Pride wants to outsmart death by leaving a testament to oneself. Its own preservation, or the…

Order and Chaos and Mystery

Order and Chaos is a fascinating Lorestone set, with much explicitly said but the context not consistently clear.

Let's start with what we know.

  • The speaker is Athyll, as it is the only name associated with any of the speaking parts. From the content, we know that she was an Alfar mage of great power, likely Dokkalfar due to the mention of Lyria.
  • Either Athyll has deep discussions with herself or she has lost her mind. The conversation seems to be more than just voicing an imaginary friend but the voices don't seem to be distinct, separate personalities.
  • Athyll saw an Erathi, and searched for another vision of the spirit throughout her life.
  • From the description that she saw "a horrible, chaotic monstrosity" in the depths of an Erathi ruin impl…

To the Faelands - and beyond!

One of my favorite things to do as I replay KoA is watch for places where the world clearly has space far beyond what's used in Reckoning. The fact that this game was made with being an MMO in mind is clear and tons of fun to explore.

One of the simplest, most likely to be ignored places where this happens is in the cities. Yes, all of them. Have you ever noticed how many empty or mostly empty rooms there are? Or how many places where a castle has a section of wall that looks just like a door? One of the problems that MMOs have as they grow is that as new mechanics or events or shops are added, more space has to be forced into already-large cities. "Wait, where did that come from? Stormwind wasn't under construction recently, it's even des…

Faeland gender problems

Warning: More approaching a rant than a more serious essay.

Kingdoms of Amalur is a game that does many wonderful things. My personal favorite is Taibreah, and my least favorite is the Dokkalfar.

Taibreah is wonderful. She’s young, not a fighter, and yet super-special because of who she is. In effect, she’s a Princess of Sorrows. What I really love about Taibreah, though, is that she is was the Weeping King.

This is simply fantastic. This means that for the Fae, not even gender is completely static. This is hinted at in the House of Ballads questline, as you can be either Sir or Lady Sagrell and nothing changes concerning how characters respect you, but it is nowhere near as explicit as it is made by Taibreah. A bit more specifically, this m…

On Fae Houses

It is clear to me that the Fae Houses mirror each other: Vengeance to Valor, Pride to Ballads, and Seasons to Sorrows. It is unclear, though, just what the relationship is.

While Vengeance seems to encapsulate anger and rage, Valor is a more structured focus on combat - learning to fight instead of restraining an incessant berserker rage. While Valor revels in combat, Vengeance doesn't have that luxury and features stoicism and determination "that [makes] granite seem soft and fickle." Interestingly, both of these youngest Houses were taken over by forces that proved better than the Fae at what the House represented: Valor by Hroth Magnus, a mortal who mastered combat better than the Fae could in their cycles; and Vengeance by Tirnoch, who…

On Fae Rebirth

Fae rebirth, the nature of their immortality, is confusingly addressed by lore sources in-game. Clearly:

  • Fae are reborn in a hollow when they die.
  • Fae lives are so long aside from the rebirth-cycle that they seem immortal by more usual definitions than rebirth, especially as Titarion is referenced as being unusually old and wise for a Summer Fae.
  • It is suggested that the Fateless One unravelling a Fae disrupts their return to the Great Cycle.
  • Tirnoch's influence disrupts the Great Cycle, forcing Fae to be reborn as Tuatha instead of their natural selves. It is likely that the Great Cycle will return to its natural state after the events of Reckoning.
  • Only the Winter Fae are willing to openly discuss Fae dying. Summer Fae use euphemisms like …

New Contributor Approaches!

New Contributor Approaches! - 27/06/2014

So, it’s the summer holidays and I’ve nothing to do. My close friend and admin of the Amalur Wiki has been pestering... errr… asking me to join up with the wiki for a while now, and true, I kinda liked the idea, so I thought “hell, why not” and here I am. I figured this would be a nice little distraction between gaming and sleeping, and I’d be helping out a close friend, so it’s a win-win all round. So yeah, hopefully I can contribute a few things here and there, and I’m looking forward to helping out!

See you around people!

Hello all! Nice to speak to you all again! This blog post is on a slightly different note to the other News post I have recently made (as the title may suggest). However, I guess that you could say that this new post is for a similar reason?

Amalur Wiki:Editing guideline - Updates Discussion

Hello the Amalur Wiki community! I'm WikiaWizard and I'm an editor here as you may have noticed from my recent edits. I have had prior experience editing on Wikia at the Fable Wiki. At the moment a vast majority of my edits will be revamping some of the older pages here on the wiki and streamlining articles so that there's a general order to how they look and are set out. Now this leads onto the main point of this News post - updating the Amalur Wiki:Editing guideline.

At the moment the guidelines seem to have done a pretty good job of maintaining the same standard across most the pages. However, as some may also have noticed, there are a number of articles which cause "exceptions" to the guide. Now, I'm not saying that every article has to …

January 20, 2014 Cancer Day

Ahhh, and here I am, on my newest crash and go mindless craze.  Wherein I sit and play Reckoning and edit Wiki pages if I feel like they are lacking or confusing.

Today, I fought for hours with Humana HMO Medicare.  Three patients were in need. One, dying of Cancer more than likely and Humana was playing games, delaying authorizations and even going so far as to say they didn't know who he was....even though he was just mailed a new id card!  After hours of emailing, calling, chewing out insurance people, all to try and help this man get into specialists and get Chemo started, I'm worn out.

Tomorrow, I continue the good fight.  The old fashioned family doc fight.  Where we go to bat and care about our patients.  Tomorrow, I find a way to…

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

My name is Kaltharn Asuros, I am a level 12 Battlemage, I weild a set of Chakrams, and the ever unique Thintri's Malus.

They call me the Fateless One, they say I affect the fates of those around me and that I am changing the way the world works.

The drunken fateweaver Agarth has been guiding me on my path, at least he was for a while, he now waits for me at the Three Lamps Inn, at Didenhil.

Not too long ago, I awoke at Allestar Tower in Allestar Glade, I soon realised I was laying among retched, stinking, corpses, and soon found I was part of an experiment of a Gnome named Fomorous Hugues, he was working on a Well of Souls, recreating bodies of the dead.

Soon I became aware of the Tuatha that were looking to end my newfound life, for some un…

Updates to the Related Videos Module

Hi All!

Last year, we began experimenting with some video features on a certain set of test wikis. Our goal was to gauge our visitors' interest in watching videos. Our findings were not surprising: people love to watch on-topic videos.

The main tool we used to test this was the Related Videos module (which you can see in the right rail). It was built as a proof-of-concept feature and we knew it wasn't scalable to launch on many more wikis. We've reached the point in our Video project where we're confident enough to turn on for more wikis (release plan TBD). However, this requires some functionality changes.

  • 1 How it used to work
  • 2 How it works now
  • 3 How it will work as of Oct 3rd
  • 4 How it will work in the near future
  • 5 Why are we making these changes?…

Project Copernicus cost (as in how much would you pay to play) and other information on the game

Well, it's been awhile folks. Been busy going to job interviews in and out of my state, as well as dealing with family, friends, and re-playing/trying out games I've been meaning to get back to. Still had some spare time to come back and double check to make sure no one's vandalizing the wikia, but not much time to actually edit, or post new information.

Well, today, I had some time on my hands and decided to go check out if there was any new news items about 38 Studios, whether Rhode Island has set a date to sell/who's interested in buying KoA, and anything more I can find out about Project Copernicus. Well, I've found out something interesting about the last item.

Related video module coming soon

Hi,

Over the past couple of months we have been developing and testing a related videos module on some wikis like Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Halo. During these tests we have been tracking the number of video plays as well as collecting community feedback. We are now ready to expand the rollout to the rest of the site, and we are starting with wikis that there are the most videos for - which includes your wiki!

The videos we have are fully licensed from video partners we have developed relationships with. They include videos such as trailers, famous movie/TV clips, walkthroughs and behind the scenes interviews. We currently have video content from Screenplay and are working to create partnerships with other vendors, including Hulu, soon. …

It is being hosted at the moment by Kotaku.

As I said in my previous blog, depending upon who buys the Amalur IP, there may be a chance of the continuation of the game series. But that is a very slim chance, so don't put too much hope into it.

Africa could save $10 billion annually with LEDs; Philips installs solar street lights

If Africa switched its incandescent lighting to LED lighting, the continent could save up to N1.63 trillion ($10 billion) in annual energy costs, more than 50 million tonnes of carbon and the equivalent output of 35 power stations. These were the key findings of a recent research study conducted by Royal Philips. The above figures reflect only on-grid lighting where electricity currently exists.

Nick Kelso, senior communications manager, Philips Lighting Africa, added that LED solutions, when combined with the latest innovations in battery and solar developments, can provide practical and sustainable light for some 600 million Africans who currently live without electricity according to the International Finance Corporation, a division of t…

Wikia at Comic-Con 2012

Wikia is headed to Comic-Con! That’s right. We’re pulling up our Internet stakes and traveling circus-style to Southern California where we have a number of fun events planned (meet-ups, parties, interview opportunities, etc.) for the duration of the convention.

While the convention used to focus solely on comic-books, the event has since expanded to become one of the biggest entertainment shows in world! Let us know if you will be headed to San Diego this year to attend. And, if you are, are you interested in covering any news for your wiki?

Also, if you do make it do to San Diego, come hang out with your fellow Wikia users and some Wikia staff at our very own party! You can find more details and learn how to RSVP to our Wikia party right h…

Union flag to appear on UK driving licences from 2015

The union flag is to be put on British driving licences alongside the European flag, Downing Street has disclosed.

Ministers feel that the driving licence is, alongside the passport, the single most widely used identity document in the UK and that it is an anomaly that the card is dominated by an EU flag.

In jubilee year, the government has not yet finally decided whether to put the UK flag on the plastic licence or the royal crest. The move would not be without precedent – the Belgians, for instance, have a bear on their driving licences.

A No 10 spokesman said: “There’s no reason why the British driving licence should have the EU flag but not the union flag. People in this country are proud of our national symbols. It’s time that, once agai…

38 Studio's Declares Bankruptcy

On June 7th, 38 Studio's founder/owner, Curt Schillings, filed for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Chapter 7 is used by Companies/People in the US who are deep in debt and they file it (or forced to file by creditors) in a Federal Court. The court appoints a Chapter 7 Trustee who has vast powers and he/she is in charge of liquidating the company. This doesn't mean that all employees will be laid off, in the past, entire divisions have been sold off to another companies with all the employees with jobs.

This means had Curt Schillings not laid off every employee working for him, there was a possibility that they wouldn't have been laid off. What does this mean for 38 Studio's/Big Huge Games? It means that anyone with money, can buy up the studio's an…

The Fate of Amalur

I found these articles this morning after I woke up, and after reading, I wanted everyone to hear about this information. As we all know, 38 Studio's borrowed $75 million bond (plus interest) from the state of Rhode Island. Repaying the state back in full by 2020. According to information from Rhode Island's Channel 12 WPRI, Rhode Island taxpayers would be stuck paying $112.6 million. From information that the channel has dug up, $23.4 million of the $75 million was set aside as a reserve to pay back the bonds. So not all of said $75 million was spent and tied up into Studio 38 games. Also, it should be noted that none of the money borrowed from Rhode Island was, according to former Big Huge Games employee's, spent on the creation of Kingd…

Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckoning 2 was in "pre-productiong"

38 Studio's Big Huge Games was in the process of creating Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning 2, in the early stages of pre-production.

According to former members of BHG, elements that were tested before the close of the studio was higher graphics quality on everything, no loading between zones, expanded and improved combat animations, more quests that branched out and the player's decisions held greater effects on the world.

It sounds like the next game, would have been bigger and better then it's predecessor. But for the moment, 38 Studio's still owns KoA IP, and with no staff, all work is frozen unless 38 Studio's manages to acquire private funding that will help cover staff and loan payments.
